BALBLAIR 1991 Of 46%

Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands, 70cl, Ref: 54637

Every year, Balblair distillery manager John MacDonald selects the best vintages available in his warehouses. And at exactly the right moment, when the balance between spirit character and wood influence is just right, they are bottled. It’s the ability to judge that precise point in time that makes Balblair so special.

Established in 1790, Balblair distillery is one of the oldest working distilleries in Scotland and the oldest working distillery in the Highlands. It is strikingly situated by the beautiful Dornoch Firth on the sweep of the Cambuscurrie Bay within sight of the ancient Clach Biorach standing stone. The original source of its water is still used to this day. The delightful and winding Allt Dearg burn flows fresh and clear from the surrounding hills.

The brand

The brand

One of the rare distilleries to produce vintage-dated editions (rather than bottles aged for 10, 12, 15 years etc.), Balblair produces a generous, round, fruity and accessible whisky. Bottled at no less than 43% ABV (46% and cask strength for older bottlings), it is one of the rare single malts to remain largely unknown despite being ideal for beginners: no notes of peat or iodine, very rarely woody and always welcoming.
