Dubbed “Aultmore of the Foggie Moss” by the Speyside distillery behind its production, this magnificent 25 year old is characterised - to say the least - by the influence of its sherry cask maturation. This small batch whisky has a very distinctive and classic sherry style which nonetheless boasts a surprisingly well-integra - ted and wide-ranging aromatic palette. From Amaretto to spice bread passing by Agen prunes on the way... it’s all there!

Tasting note

  • Appearance : deep gold with amber hues.
  • Nose : generous and warm, the nose immediately evokes a cornucopia of summer and autumn fruits: Charente melon, orange, lemon zest, Agen prunes, plum, red grape juice and exotic fruit zabaione. Next, an elegant rancio appears, bringing with it dried fruit and honey, evoking the heady fragrance of Pedro Ximenez. Zan liquorice and black liquorice linger close by, bringing a certain depth to the aromas with notes of coffee, chocolate, cinnamon and ginger. Walnut cake.
  • Palate : lively and expressive, it coats the palate with generous sweet pastry flavours before developing into carob, coffee grounds and praline. It becomes more mellow with malted barley, orchard fruits, apple juice and grapes. It then returns to more autumnal tones of black liquorice and spice bread.
  • Overall : mouth-watering, it gives way to fine notes of rancio freshened up by flavours of aniseed and menthol. Pedro Ximenez is omnipresent throughout. Fine notes of undergrowth and mushrooms. An invigorating hint of lemon appears in the retro-nasal olfaction.

Situated in the Speyside valley, the golden triangle of Scotland, the Aultmore distillery is renowned for the quality of its single malts. The distillery has had an eventful past. Following its creation in 1896, the distillery’s success enabled its founder Alexander Edward to develop the business by taking over the Oban distillery. The bankruptcy of their main customer Pattison Ltd slowed down production considerably until Prohibition in America and the Great Depression of the twenties put paid to Edward’s ambitions. The distillery was bought several times by a succession of groups, which enabled it to stay open throughout the two world wars. In 1970 the distillery closed for renovation work and was equipped with two additional stills that doubled its production. Owned by the Bacardi group since 1998 the Aultmore distillery is now back in the spotlight thanks to the increasing success of its single malts.
