ARRAN 9 ans 2008 Sherry Oloroso Private Cask The Chronicles 57,3%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands-arran, 70cl, Ref: 55097
Founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, the former director of Chivas Brothers, Arran was the first distillery to operate on the island since 1837. With exceptional richness and complexity, this bottling reveals three very distinct sequences. The natural richness and fruit of the nose, the delicate mouthfeel and resplendent maturity of the finish are highlights of an indulgent tasting. It also shows that Arran tirelessly perfects its work, striving for ever more authenticity.
Profile: the rich initial nose is both pulpy and candied (prune, date). Allowed to breathe, it reveals notes of citrus fruit, chocolate and liquorice stick. The lively palate expresses both cocoa and malt, before becoming increasingly spicy and vanilla. A lovely soft mouthfeel. The energetic finish is characterized in particular by salted butter caramel and precious wood.

- Appearance : mahogany with glints of green.
- Nose : rich, concentrated. The remarkably well-balanced initial nose is pulpy yet candied, characterized by lots of dried fruits (prune, date), delicate spices (cumin, turmeric) and lots of energy. Allowed to breathe, citrus fruits (orange) and chocolate bring lots of harmony and complexity. It then clearly evokes liquorice stick, whilst accentuating its natural fruitiness and richness.
- Palate : lively, distinguished. At first, fine notes of cocoa flood the palate, before malted barley highlights a pleasant sensation of freshness. The mid-palate is characterised by notes of tobacco and leather. Continuing on, noble spices (cardamom, saffron), vanilla and cashew bring lots of depth and sensuality to an end of the palate marked by its delicate mouthfeel.
- Overall : long, smooth. The mouth-watering finish overflows with energy and vitality. Salted butter caramel gradually spreads across the palate, accompanied by notes of precious wood, smoke rings from a Havana cigar and even exotic fruits (banana, pineapple). All of these ingredients enrich a radiant finish that boasts impressive maturity. As though time has stood still, it takes a few minutes for the retronasal olfaction to invite us to breathe in the gentle warmth of a malting floor. The empty glass releases aromas of vetiver, coffee and star anise.
- The brand
The Isle of Arran has come a long way and their 10 year old whisky, bottled for some years now, has raised the distillery to the ranks of the great whisky producers. The particularity of Arran whisky is in its finishes, carried out in a wide variety of casks that previously contained wine (from Champagne, Margaux or Marsala) or even brandy (Cognac, calvados). The distillery is also known for producing whisky with various forgotten types of barley, as well as a series of vintage single casks, often bottled at cask strength. Produced on an island near the Scottish mainland, its style is more like Highland malt. Find out more
