ARRAN 5 ans 2011 50ppm Sherry Finish LMDW Cellar Book Of 57,4%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Highlands-arran, 70cl, Ref: 53578
This peated bottling (50 ppm) has been finished for its final months in an ex-sherry cask. Boasting a particularly sunny style, its aromas and flavours centre on its peaty backbone. Smoke, spice, white florals, aromatic plants, mineral salts and noble spices take it in turns to make their contribution to this complex, fine-cut ensemble that is even exotic at times. Bottled at cask strength, this single cask bottling shows Arran in a new and unusual light.
Profile: the very complex nose is delicately peaty, fruity, smoky and spicy. Gradually it becomes floral and voluptuous. Full of exoticism, the palate is characterised by salty, rooty notes. With huge freshness, the finish reveals vanilla, chilli, camphor and noble spices.

- Appearance : vibrant gold.
- Nose : fine, distinguished. With huge complexity, the initial nose reveals a delicately fruity (pear), smoky and spicy (root ginger) peat. Allowed to breathe, its floral aspect comes to the fore, notably revealing white florals (lily of the valley, lily, iris). Very svelte, it then takes on notes of honey and vanilla. Incredibly consistent as a whole. The appearance of aromatic plants (mint, verbena, sage) beautifully punctuates the nose.
- Palate : simultaneously firm and delicate. Whilst showing wonderful exoticism (pineapple), the attack on the palate also reveals rooty notes of ginger and ginseng. It is also saline, bursting with mineral salts that bring lots of freshness. The invigorating mid-palate has a delicately powdery texture (rice) before taking on a more milky (almond, walnut) and herbaceous (cut hay) aspect.
- Overall : long, beautifully sculpted. Still with huge freshness, the peat is now, more than ever, the backbone of this Arran. The complex finish at times even becomes hot (Cayenne). A sensation of deep balance emanates from the end of the palate. On the retro-nasal olfaction, noble spices (saffron, cumin) appear alongside exotic fruits (banana, persimmon). The empty glass reveals notes of liquorice, camphor, vanilla and malt.
- The brand
The Isle of Arran has come a long way and their 10 year old whisky, bottled for some years now, has raised the distillery to the ranks of the great whisky producers. The particularity of Arran whisky is in its finishes, carried out in a wide variety of casks that previously contained wine (from Champagne, Margaux or Marsala) or even brandy (Cognac, calvados). The distillery is also known for producing whisky with various forgotten types of barley, as well as a series of vintage single casks, often bottled at cask strength. Produced on an island near the Scottish mainland, its style is more like Highland malt. Find out more
