All about making whisky
ARDMORE 2008 S.V 62,2%
Single Malt Whisky, Scotland / Speyside, 70cl, Ref: 52159A
All the ingredients that allow Ardmore to hold a special place in the heart of whisky lovers can be found in this vintage, namely: on one side, a smoke and peat that punctuate the tasting session and on the other, a number of fruits, heady flowers, refreshing aromatic plants and strong spices that bring plenty of nuances to its range of flavours and aromas. Add to that a natural ability to constantly gain in elegance as so exquisitely displayed in the astoundingly fine, full and deep finish.
Profile: complex, the initial nose is smoky before becoming fruity and mostly peaty. Airing enhances the salty and pleasant character. With liveliness, the palate is medicinal and peppery as well as smoky and peaty. A bouquet of fresh fruits (white grape) on the finish.
Sourcing actor, importer and exclusive distributor of a portfolio of international brands, La Maison du Whisky is, since 60 years a reference for whisky and spirit lovers. Thanks to our close relationships with producers and independent bottlers, we have access to limited editions and unique products we bring to market exclusively. Curious and creative, we are driven by our passion for products and our desire to constantly bring our clients the latest expressions through our own shops, our website whisky.fr and selected wine retail shops in France.
- Nose : fine, complex. Behind a first smoky note, the initial nose reveals notes of coconut, candied lemon, pineapple and above all a superbly elegant liquorice and herbaceous peat. Upon airing, it becomes more saline, roasted (tobacco) and balsamic (eucalyptus). A range of aromas exuding a pleasant feeling of profound serenity.
- Palate : lively, full-bodied. In contrast, the attack is extremely firm. The smoke and peat, now closely interwoven, create a medicinal and peppery character in the mid-palate. Even if hints of ripe fruits (grape, peach, plum), vanilla and dried fruits (walnut, almond) are present, the finish is decidedly saline.
- Overall : long, balanced. Delicately honey-like, with notes of flowers (lily of the valley) and aromatic plants (sage), then becoming crisper. The palate is flooded with the sweet juices of Chasselas grapes. With the same refinement, a soft liquorice and creamy note arrives on the finish. The retro-nasal olfaction highlights delightful malty and peaty tones.
- The brand
Ardmore is an ambiguous distillery. On the border between Speyside and the eastern Highlands, Ardmore was established in 1897, just one year before the Pattison brothers went bankrupt. Its whisky has a character which could be mistaken for an island whisky rather than a mainland. Interestingly, between 1817 and 1835, another distillery of the same name operated on the Isle of Islay before merging with Lagavulin. This colourful heritage extends deep into its DNA. Discovered thanks to its independent bottlings, Ardmore has, for several years, released its own 12 year old “house”.
Although the independent bottler Signatory Vintage cannot claim to be one of the oldest in Scotland, it has managed to build up an extremely solid reputation amongst the great malt connoisseurs. The creator of the famous range The Prestonfield and many other well-known ranges, it is best known for its un-chillfiltered and cask strength bottlings that offer amateurs the chance to enjoy their whisky in its most natural form. It was also one of the first independent bottlers to acquire a distillery and now offers a growing number of expressions of one of the most artisan single malts available.
The Cask Strength Collection of single malt and single grain whiskies is without doubt one of the most appreciated ranges. Each release is bottled undiluted, unchillfiltered and usually consists of a single cask. To help the consumer appreciate their whisky at more than a purely aromatic and gustatory level, Signatory Vintage takes care to display on each label, with great precision, the region of production, the date of distillation and bottling, the type of cask used, its number and the number of bottles of the same nectar that were produced. This range thus offers some fascinating facts, in addition to exceptional quality!
