AMRUT 5 ans 2017 Ex-Sauternes Cask 8038 Antipodes

Nose : Refined, distinguished. With stunning sunny fullness, the first nose wavers between candied apricot, dark chocolate, incense, leather, nectarine and spices (curry, cardamom). Allowed to breathe, heady florals (mimosa, tuberose) and very ripe fruits (grape, cherry) create a shimmering plethora of colour. Next, the aroma palette becomes gradually more medicinal (band-aid, arnica), camphoric and liquorice.

Appearance : Cuivre

Palate : Rich, powerful. Overflowing with energy, the attack faithfully recreates the medicinal and camphoric register from the nose, adding delicious absinthe flavours. This is followed by an incredibly creamy malty sequence that creates a transition into the chocolate, powdery and spicy (cinnamon, ginger) mid-palate. Very fine notes of cut hay, quince jelly and heather honey then bring lots of smoothness to the end of the palate.

Overall : Long, distinguished. The start of the finish is just as powdery and spicy, and like biting into a liquorice stick. Next, flavours of pine resin, coriander and flowers (lavender, violet) underscore the end of the finish’s heady character. On the retro-nasal olfaction, notes of peanut, milk chocolate and caramel stand together in a very uniform ensemble of flavours. The empty glass releases the scents of a washback in the middle of fermentation.
