Tasting notes
Nose : Though a close reflection of malted barley, the first nose quickly takes us to a rich and abundantly fruity register (apple tart, ground almond). Allowed to breathe, it becomes vanilla and heady (lily, tuberose). Much later, lots of exotic fruits (passion fruit, banana, pineapple, mango) and sweet spices (cinnamon, ginger) drive the aroma palette higher.
Appearance : vieil or.
Palate : Lively, full of style. The intensely fruity attack (guava, persimmon, apricot) coats the taste buds in a fine layer of liquorice and vanilla. Magnificently herbaceous (verbena, savory), floral (lime blossom) and tertiary (lichen, moss) the mid-palate reveals a remarkably delicate texture. As on the nose, the end of the palate drives the flavours even higher.
Overall : Long full of freshness. At the start of the finish, cocoa powder and pine resin are placed gently on the palate. The mentholated and fruity (greengage plum, melon) end of the finish has lots of substance while at the same time remaining ethereal. Pepped up with a hint of curry, the retro-nasal olfaction is both musky and delicately woody. The empty glass is animal (bacon), herbaceaous (gentian) and praline.
