All about making whisky
Suntory created a new blend to celebrate its 110th anniversary: Hibiki 12 years-old, the most recent in an exceptional series, that has been recognized as offering the best blended whiskies in the world. This is an extremely smooth whisky, due to being matured in Japanese Umeshu plum liqueur barrels and filtered through bamboo charcoal. This premium blend includes different styles of malt from Hakushu and Yamazaki, the oldest distillery in Japan (1923).
The emblematic whisky of Sofia Coppola’s film Lost in Translation, it was launched in 1989. The Hibiki (‘harmony’) bottle is easily recognisable with its 24 facets symbolising both the 24 hours of the day and the seasons of the lunar calendar.
Uniting complexity and serenity, Hibiki is a blended whisky that embodies the very essence of Japanese craftsmanship. Its name, which means “resonance”, inspires a strong response from the most well-informed whisky amateurs: Hibiki echoes nature and the subtleties of the 24 seasons of the ancient Japanese lunar calendar. This moving symphony of flavours and aromas results from the combination of malt and grain whiskies aged in different types of casks, including the extremely rare Mizunara (Japanese oak).
