For many single malt and Scottish blend enthusiasts, Japanese whisky has for a long time (wrongly) been thought of as an aberration or, at best, a novelty. However, produced using the same methods as Scotch whisky, Japanese whisky is not just a pale imitation of scotch, and even less a simple ersatz unworthy of the name, as an increasing number of connoisseurs – who are now enjoying the flavours of Japanese whisky – have discovered. This is because it has borrowed the best of its production methods from its distant Scottish cousin and has rigorously high standards, so much so that in international competitions it now systematically swipes the prizes from under the nose of the great Scottish dram. Find out more
