Contrary to the Neisson 21 year old, which has kept its young spirit, this version, distilled in 2011, seems to be more mature for its age. Which is fairly normal after all! Clearly, this rum has lived up to expectations. An ama - zingly mature and complex rum, so much so that you would have to be very astute to guess that this Neisson is only four years old.

Profile: voluptuous and luxurious. Vanilla and chocolate on the palate. Impressive maturity.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : deep burnished gold with orangey tinges.
  • Nose : full-flavoured, rich. This version needs to be aerated for a considerable time for it to find its balance. At which point its voluptuous, luscious character can reach its full expression. With heaps of class, it gradually unfolds a very elegant woodiness that further enhances all of the bountiful fruit (mango, passion fruit) and flowers. Exceptionally long, it lingers with spices and cocoa powder.
  • Palate : clean, lively. Surprisingly mature despite its young age, similar to the nose, it reveals notes of chocolate, vanilla and wood. Exotic fruit enthusiasts will be able to indulge themselves to the fullest. And those who prefer apricots or Mirabelle plums, will not be disappointed either.
  • Overall : long, silky. Its notes of tobacco and gingerbread embody to perfection the classical side of the finish, while its exoticism is highlighted by bois bandé, cinnamon and chillies. The retro-olfaction is roasted (coffee) and vanillaflavoured. The quality of the dry extract in the empty glass is extraordinary

The smallest distillery on Martinique, Neisson resembles a complex kaleidoscope of green and pink houses, as if they were trying to imitate the luscious surrounding vegetation. Since 1931, three generations have succeeded one after the other at the head of the distillery, preserving the skills and expertise of the greatest Martinique tradition. Grégory Vernant-Neisson, in his early forties and currently at the head of the distillery, describes their Martinique Agricultural Rum AOC: “The most important thing to understand about Martinique rum from is that it’s produced directly from sugar cane juice, and not molasses.” Behind the Neisson philosophy lies a great respect for the value of the land and its properties. Because Martinique, with its volcanic soil and climate (particularly in the north of the island where the distillery is located) has a particularly strong influence on the aromatic palette of Neisson Rums and their unique flavours.
