The famous champagne house came into existence in Epernay in 1743 thanks to Claude Moët, a French wine merchant. In just a few years the company became internationally renowned and acquired a prestigious image. The Impérial vintage was created in honour of Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine who regularly stayed in Moët’s private mansion in Epernay. The company name was changed in 1833 when the owner’s son-in-law, Pierre-Gabriel Chandon, joined the management. With over 1,000 hectares of vines, Moët et Chandon currently owns the largest champagne vineyard.
