Single Malt, Japan / Honshu - Nagano 70cl Ref: 51689

Oi River was the most difficult point to progress in Edo period. Tokugawa Shogunate who ruled this country at the time intentionally left this river unbridged to protect their homeland Edo Castle. Travelers should have to cross the river on bearers' shoulders. This Karuizawa Whisky expresses the spirit of “Trust" and "Dedication”.

Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji is a series of landscape prints by the Japanese artist Hokusai. Each depicts Mount Fuji from different locations in various weather conditions. The label of this Karuizawa features one of these striking prints. A unique bottling drawn from casks of 1999 and 2000 vintages and bottled at cask strength.

The brand

The brand

The Karuizawa distillery was built in 1955 in the town of the same name, in the prefecture of Nagano surrounded by the Japanese Alps. Japanese whisky generally has a very good reputation, but Karuizawa is especially sought after and appreciated by connoisseurs; it has accumulated an impressive number of medals in competitions. Just like Macallan, it is a whisky that owes much of its character to the type of barley that is used: (‘Golden Promise’) and to ageing in sherry casks. Production stopped in 2000 and bottles are becoming increasingly rare.
