EVOLUTION 2012 45%

Blended Malt, Scotland / Highlands 70cl Ref: 16963

Evolution has a ‘old style’ feel about it. However, far from being nostalgic, this malt whisky is very much up-to-date. Its simple, direct way of revealing all of its aromas and flavours is quite innovative: Samaroli is well-known for its unusual and hence timeless bottlings.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : bronze with orange tinges.
  • Nose : ample, elegant. Outstandingly refined woody notes. Without overpowering the aromatic palette, they add just the right amount of furniture polish, cypress and dark chocolate. Exotic fruit (mango, persimmon), emery cloth, freshly-ground pepper, aromatic plants (sage, oregano) and citrus fruit (orange, tangerine) develop evenly to their full potential. It continues to deepen into floral (honeysuckle) and spicy (curry) notes.
  • Palate : fine, distinguished. Starts with a slight medicinal edge (camphor) and praline. The mid-palate is unctuous and lively, revealing fresh fruit (Mirabelle plums and quince) and beeswax. Its delicate mouth-feel favours red fruit (raspberry and strawberry). Increasingly rich, it persists with noble spices (saffron and turmeric) and prune cake.
  • Overall : long, sweet. A highly concentrated mixture of the same scents and flavours on the nose and palate respectively, but with the added dimensions of heady florals (lily and iris) and dried fruit (almond and dates). The retro-olfactation is generous (rhubarb tart) and the empty glass is beautifully woody (cedar and oak).
The brand

Founded in 1968, Samaroli is now one of the last remaining Italian whisky bottlers. Its founder, Silvano Samaroli was responsible for legendary bottlings, including a highly-prized 1966 Bowmore. Following a tasting of some very fine quality samples, we decided to introduce a small range of Samaroli bottlings that reflect the company’s dedication to its craft.
