EQUIPO NAVAZOS 2013 Casa del Inca Pedro Ximenez 15%

Sherry, Spain / Andalusia 75cl Ref: 5638

Located in the region of Cordoue, the Montilla-Moriles appellation is best known for its wines produced using the Pedro Ximenez grape variety. Bodega Perez Barquero is one of the most prestigious bodegas in the region. Each year, this batch known as “Casa del Inca” reveals freshness whilst remaining remarkably syrupy. After a superbly oxidative 2009 vintage and a hugely fresh 2011, the 2013 is underscored by an invigorating acidity and incredible maturity

Profile: Creamy. Exotic (banana, mango), delicately chocolatey and fruity (orange, tangerine). An energetic aromatic palette.

Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : mahogany
  • Nose : rich, unctuous. The initial nose is marked by a subtle combination of fresh and dried figs. It then develops into notes of lime blossom honey and dried fruit (apricot, raisin). Delicately chocolatey, it lingers with Russian leather and incense. Once aerated, heady florals (peony, rose) and spices (cinnamon, ginger) give the aromatic palette huge energy.
  • Palate : mellow, voluptuous. The attack on the palate wavers between a variety of honeys (lime blossom, lavender) and quince jelly. The mid-palate is exotic (banana, mango), chocolatey and fruity (orange, tangerine). With time, red fruit (grenadine, strawberry) joins the abundance of dried fruit (fig, date, walnut).
  • Overall : long, fresh. Notes of straw and pipe tobacco provide a copious tertiary entrance into the finish. Long legs caress the edges of the glass, a sign of a completely balanced liqueur with great depth. The retro-nasal olfaction bursts with the exotic (litchi, persimmon, guava). The empty glass is generously tarry. Grapes finish drying out in the Andalusian sun.
The brand

The brand

Three men, Jesus Barquin, Edouardo Ojeda and Alvaro Giron, united in their passion for Andalucia’s wines, are instigated the La Bota project. The project began in December 2005, when, while visiting a very old bodega, they discovered several dozen ‘butts’ of Amontillado sherry that had been undisturbed for more than 20 years. They selected a small quantity and bottled it under the name La Bota de Amontillado Navazos. Initially they only offered it to friends and a small group of sherry enthusiasts. Such was their success that they formed the ‘Equipo Navazos’, and have since released thirty small bottlings. Every one is a masterpiece.
