Product details

Tasting note

  • Appearance : vibrant golden yellow
  • Nose : rich, unctuous. A burst of exotic fruits (banana), vanilla and candied lemons combine to reveal a single fruit: kiwi. Develops with aromas of liquorice and coffee. Deliciously honeyed (acacia), it lingers on notes of wax, walnut and dried fig.
  • Palate : full-bodied, balanced. This rounded concoction first coats the palate in a layer of vanilla and double cream. The mid-palate emerges spicy (star anise, clove) and roasted (coffee beans, chocolate chips). Herbs and freshly-cut grass take over the end of the palate.
  • Overall : long, sappy. It gains significantly in concentration. The gustatory palette develops a more powerful, firmer aspect. A pinch of salt settles on the back of the tongue. Dried fruit (date, prune) accentuates its tannic development. The retro-nasal olfaction sways between green malt, fresh fruit and coconut. The empty glass is malty, spiced (coriander, cinnamon) and chocolatey
The brand

The brand

Located at an altitude of 327m, Dalwhinnie is the highest operating distillery in Scotland. It is also where, in 1994, the lowest average temperature in the whole country was recorded: just six degrees! Gaining fame after being included in the Classic Malts selection, Dalwhinnie has in recent years suffered at the hands of the financial crisis and has just lost its place in the famous Classic Malts boxset alongside Oban, Glenkinchie and Cragganmore, who all suffered the same fate. Soft and honeyed with a characteristic and very dry finish, Dalwhinnie is almost only ever found in official bottlings. Find out more

The line

Created more than 20 years ago, Classic Malts brings together six single malts from various regions that represent the best of Scotland and the expertise of well-known distilleries.
Caol Ila, Lagavulin and Talisker represent the islands; Clynelish, Dalwhinnie, Oban and Royal Lochnagar for the Highlands; Speyside with Cardhu, Cragganmore, Knockando, The Singleton of Dufftown and the Lowlands with Glenkinchie.
