All about making whisky
Created in 1891 and entirely rebuilt in 1965, the Craigellachie distillery produces a single malt which delights master blenders. Aged for 13 years and wavering between a mature and youthful style, this expression gives malted barley the central role it deserves. And yet beautiful floral, medicinal and fruity notes bring tremendous subtlety, vigour and a certain depth.
Profile: creamy. Malted barley, citrus fruit. Spicy (pepper, cinnamon, ginger), medicinal and herbaceous notes. Candied and fresh fruit (melon, kiwi, apple). White flowers.
Taken over by John Dewars & Sons (Bacardi) in 1998, Craigellachie has a highly exclusive following and was founded in 1891 by a very interesting character indeed: Peter Mackie. The creator of the international commercial success, the White Horse blend, Peter was one of the five Barons of the whisky industry, one of the famous “Big Five”. His uncle, from whom he would later inherit, was none other than James Logan Mackie, the owner of the Lagavulin distillery on the Isle of Islay.
