To celebrate the Clairin World Championship 2016, a mixology championship during which twelve bartenders competed on Haiti, LMDW and Velier decided to blend the clairins of Fritz Vaval, Faubert Casimir and Michel Sajous. This sacred union gave birth to this vintage that manages to showcase each clairins that composes it while revealing a unique and singular personality. The least we can write is that the deeply fruity character of the Vaval clairin, the strong spicy temperament of the Casimir clairin and the wonderfully floral fragrances of the Sajous clairin, to name but a few of these qualities, have blended together to make a vintage that matches the ambitions expressed by these three outstanding distillers.

Profile: Fresh and generous, the initial nose is first floral and aromatic (linden). Red fruits (strawberry) and exotic fruits (mango) are then coated with a delicate layer of liquorice. Fine and impressive, the palate is deliciously sweet, spicy and roasted. Notes of chocolate, peach and lots of minerality in the finish.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : colourless.
  • Nose : a combination of freshness and generosity, the initial nose is marked by floral notes (rose, peony), acacia gum, cypress and linden flowers. As aeration goes along, the nose lengthens to become particularly fruity (raspberry, strawberry) and exotic (mango, lime). A hint of liquorice and sugar cane rises to stay at the top of the aromatic palette.
  • Palate : both fine and impressive. Intensely fibrous and vegetal, on the palate the attack is also fruity and deliciously sweet. Strong spices (black pepper, nutmeg) and peppery notes in the mid- palate. Its roasted character (eucalyptus, laurel) and chocolate progressively procure plenty of sweetness in the finish.
  • Overall : long, greedy. Voluminous, it fills up the palate. Flavours of geranium, rosemary, and raspberry evolve in perfect harmony. Simultaneously, in the mouth it creates a sensation of removing the skin of a white peach. A peach that we then bite into with pleasure. Mineral and bluish (slate). The empty glass reveals incredibly powerful notes of cane juice.a vintage that matches the ambitions expressed by these three outstanding distillers.

Traditional Haiti ! These highly artisanal eaux-de-vie, similar to white agricole rums, have long been the most popular drink in the remotest, poorest regions of Haiti. Bottled at natural strength, these three bottlings come from three different distilleries but have aspects in common: pure, well balanced alcohols capable of evolving interestingly and expressively in the glass. The Brazilian have cachaça, the Haitian have clairin!


The Velier company was founded by the Chaix family in 1947. From 1953 to 1983, this small traditional company, located in the port of Gênes, specialised in the importation and distribution of wines, champagnes and spirits. In 1983, then aged 25, Luca Gargano acquired shares in Velier. Under his influence the company began specialising in the importation of exceptional spirits to be supplied to the most prestigious establishments in Italy. In the early 1990s, Luca Gargano heard rumours of a mythical, quasi-legendary stock of St James Rum that had supposedly been distilled at the end of the 19th century. Eventually he discovered proof that this stock, distilled in 1885 and bottled in 1952, did indeed exist. And in 1991, following lengthy discussions, Luca finally managed to acquire the entirety of this stock, which he then released on the Italian market. These selections of rums have since multiplied and led to the birth of exceptional ranges.
