Faubert Casimir continues the work begun by his father Duncan in 1979. In Baraderes, he cultivates 50 ha of non-hybrid, soft, white and red Hawaiian canes. Each cane is harvested only once completely mature. In keeping with tradition, he adds lemongrass leaves and cin - namon, and for certain vats ginger, to pure, fermenting sugar cane. His Clairin, which alternates wonderfully between classicism and unbridled exuberance, takes us two centuries into the past to breath in the air of another era.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : colourless
  • Nose : rich, opulent. Generally spherical, the initial nose oscillates between spices (ginger, cinnamon), sugar cane juice, very ripe William pears and more demure black pepper. It develops into black liquorice, new spices (nutmeg, clove), citrus fruit (lemon) and lemongrass. From beginning to end, it shows great consistency, then finishing by picking off the leaves of an artichoke.
  • Palate : refined, balanced. With authority and classicism, the attack on the palate is particularly mineral (pencil lead). White fruit (peach, pear) and heady florals (rose, peony) gradually mingle with the same spices (pepper, ginger, cinnamon). The end of the palate is somewhat medicinal (tiger balm).
  • Overall : long, assertive. The tiger balm draws out the hot, therapeutic nature of the end of the palate. With time, it becomes vegetal (sugar cane) and herbaceous (lichen, ivy). The retro-nasal olfaction invites us to taste numerous jellies and jams (rose, raspberry, apricot). The empty glass is spicy (ginger, cinnamon) and oily (walnut, almond).

Traditional Haiti ! These highly artisanal eaux-de-vie, similar to white agricole rums, have long been the most popular drink in the remotest, poorest regions of Haiti. Bottled at natural strength, these three bottlings come from three different distilleries but have aspects in common: pure, well balanced alcohols capable of evolving interestingly and expressively in the glass. The Brazilian have cachaça, the Haitian have clairin!


The Velier company was founded by the Chaix family in 1947. From 1953 to 1983, this small traditional company, located in the port of Gênes, specialised in the importation and distribution of wines, champagnes and spirits. In 1983, then aged 25, Luca Gargano acquired shares in Velier. Under his influence the company began specialising in the importation of exceptional spirits to be supplied to the most prestigious establishments in Italy. In the early 1990s, Luca Gargano heard rumours of a mythical, quasi-legendary stock of St James Rum that had supposedly been distilled at the end of the 19th century. Eventually he discovered proof that this stock, distilled in 1885 and bottled in 1952, did indeed exist. And in 1991, following lengthy discussions, Luca finally managed to acquire the entirety of this stock, which he then released on the Italian market. These selections of rums have since multiplied and led to the birth of exceptional ranges.
