VEUVE CLICQUOT

In 1805 Barbe Nicole Clicquot née Ponsardin became a widow at the age of 27 and took over the management of this champagne house founded by her husband 33 years earlier. Nicknamed ‘the great lady of Champagne’, she became the first female director of a Champagne house and one of the first businesswomen in modern history. Under her management the house flourished with the acquisition of vineyards in the finest areas, the invention of the riddling table, and the creation of the yellow label. A stickler for quality, she left behind her a house driven by the same quest for innovation and excellence that is recognised across the globe, and which respects her motto: ‘One quality only, the finest.’
