This Kentucky bourbon is unique in many respects. In 1954 Bill Samuels Sr., heir to one of the oldest whiskey-producing families in the United States, decided to break with the traditional family recipe to create a ‘whisky’ in keeping with the times. Since then, this bourbon cultivates its difference: rye is replaced by wheat in the recipe, small batch, production, no prefixed length of time for the ageing process, ‘whisky’ spelt the Scottish way and square bottles sealed with red wax became its trademarks. Considered to be one of the best bourbons, over the centuries Maker’s Mark has become a household name.
