Extremely spontaneous, this Benromach aged in first-fill bourbon barrels doesn’t miss a beat with its peaty, smoky character. From beginning to end, the peat and smoke never cease to gain in strength, right up to the empty glass. Both sincere and generous, it also allows us to appreciate down to the last detail all the scope and complexity of its fruity, medicinal and spicy character. Clearly, ‘for souls nobly born, valour doesn’t await the passing of years’.

Profile: distinguished. Powerful peat, chocolatey, smoky, ashy and mentholated. Malted barley, candied lemon, ripe fruit (pears) and spices (nutmeg). The palate is fruity, herbaceous and saline, but predominantly peaty and ashy. The smoke becomes increasingly thick. Notes of tobacco.

Tasting note

  • Appearance : pale gold.
  • Nose : fine, distinguished. The aromatic palette is steeped in peat from the onset. It alternates between chocolatey, smoky, ashy, green and mentholated aromas. Little by little, malted grains of barley and candied lemon emerge on the surface of the glass. Its freshness is absolutely remarkable. Extremely deep, once aired it becomes fruity (pear), medicinal and spicy (cloves, nutmeg).
  • Palate : concentrated, rich. Well-balanced, the attack simultaneously exudes a fruity herbaceous saltiness with bags of peat and ash. The more it opens up, the stronger the peat. Invigoratingly acidic, the mid-palate is also earthy, oily and spicy (star anise, ginger). In time, a thick smoke literally submerges the palate.
  • Overall : long, heady. At this point, the gustatory palate is almost taken over by peat. However, it is surprisingly elegant. Tobacco, dark chocolate and liquorice give it plenty of substance. The retro-nasal olfaction is milky (almond), malty and roasted (coffee, mocha). The empty glass is also heavily peated and herbaceous (cut hay).
